About the role

Deputy Headteacher

Start Date January 2027 or earlier by negotiation

Full Time

Leadership Scale 13-17

Full Time Salary £69,596 to £76,772

This is an exciting opportunity to join Kingsleigh Primary School as our Deputy Headteacher working alongside our existing senior leadership team.

Kingsleigh Primary School is a community where all are welcomed valued and heard. Feeling safe and happy are at the heart of what we do to ensure we succeed as lifelong learners. We embrace individual qualities to ensure Kingsleigh is a community ‘where everyone can be great’.

We have 3 core values that underpin the behaviour ethos of our school community and are promoted throughout all areas of life at Kingsleigh and beyond: Belong Aspire Respect.

We are looking for an experienced, pragmatic and enthusiastic Deputy Headteacher to join our experienced team. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for day-to-day organisation and school systems so that teachers can teach and pupils can learn. You will be a visible leader who models high expectations, coaches staff, and drives improvement in behaviour, assessment practice and cover management across the whole school.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is already a Deputy or Assistant Headteacher and is looking to build on their skills and knowledge in a larger primary school environment.

Further Information

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead operational systems across the school, including management of the cover diary, staff deployment and HLTAs to ensure continuity of teaching and learning.
  • Lead behaviour strategy and practice: develop, implement and monitor behaviour systems; coach staff to secure consistently high expectations; analyse behaviour data and act to improve pupil engagement.
  • Lead assessment, reporting and data processes: ensure assessment is valid, proportionate and used to accelerate pupil progress; oversee data collection cycles, moderation and reporting to parents and governors.
  • Lead attendance monitoring, improvement, and policy implementation
  • Provide senior leadership across the whole primary phase, with proven experience in KS2 delivering high-quality teaching and outcomes.
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL): support safeguarding systems and contribute to case management and staff training as required.
  • Line-manage and develop Year Leaders across the primary school, including leading inductions and performance conversations where delegated by the headteacher.
  • Be a consistent, visible presence at key points in the day (start/finish, breaktimes), modelling professional conduct and routines.
  • Deputise for the Headteacher as required and contribute to strategic planning and whole-school improvement.

You will:

  • Be a qualified teacher status with substantial, successful classroom experience in KS2; experience across the whole primary age-range is highly desirable.
  • Have a strong track record of using assessment information to improve pupil progress and close gaps.
  • Be confident and effective behaviour management practice that consistently secures good learning.
  • Be able to coach, mentor and develop teaching staff to ensure outstanding outcomes.
  • Have an understanding of safeguarding duties and experience working as a DDSL or supporting DSL processes.
  • Have the ability to set clear expectations and parameters and to hold others to account for their performance. Have challenging conversations where necessary.
  • Have proven leadership experience with operational responsibilities (cover/rostering, behaviour systems, assessment).
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills: able to coach staff, communicate with parents and work with governors.
  • Be resilient, organised and pragmatic — able to make and embed operational decisions quickly.
  • Be committed to our school values and to inclusion for all pupils.
