About the role

 Location: Dorset Council, Hanhams House, Wimborne Minster

 Are you a student passionate about protecting the public, and with an interest in food safety and health and safety? Do you want to gain hands-on experience and make a real difference in your community? Join us at Dorset Council for an exciting work experience placement as an Environmental Health Officer (EHO)!

 As an EHO, you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at how we keep our community safe and healthy. You'll work on various tasks, from helping with inspections to learning about how we ensure that premises serve safe food. This is your chance to explore a career in environmental health and see how your efforts can positively impact the world around you.

 Key responsibilities:

  • Investigations & Inspections: Assist with service requests, inspections, and monitoring activities across different environmental areas
  • Customer Focus: Learn how to provide advice and assistance to the public and other stakeholders
  • Enforcement Actions: Observe how we carry out enforcement actions to ensure public safety.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside our team and other organizations to achieve our goals

During your placement, you will work with experienced staff on real projects and tasks. We expect you to:

  • follow all council rules and health and safety guidelines
  • take responsibility for your learning and ask for help when needed
  • follow instructions from your placement manager
  • attend work at the agreed times during your placement
  • stay motivated and make the most of this opportunity to show what you can do
