We are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated teacher of Music to join our talented and forward-thinking department as we continue to transform education across our town. This post would suit a colleague in the early stages of their career who is looking for a role that goes beyond the traditional teaching post. The Twynham School and TGS federation is now firmly established in Christchurch and there really is unlimited potential for our organisation to deliver a truly exceptional vision for young people across the town. The Grange school are fortunate enough to be one of only 30 schools in the country that are part of the MiSST programme (www.misst.org.uk for more info). The charity (patroned by Andrew Lloyd Webber) funds schools to buy classical instruments for every student in KS3. This gives young people an opportunity that they otherwise may not have had, to learn an instrument and also perform in high profile venues with other MiSST schools. Every KS3 lesson at The Grange School has a dedicated peripatetic teacher to support students and co-teach the violin, flute and trumpet with the class music teacher. The successful candidate will co-ordinate the MiSST programme at the school and continue to build on strong links with partnering schools.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the  opportunity to:

  • Teach Music within an aspirational organisation with a vision for world class education
  • Lead extra-curricular ensembles and organise performance opportunities
  • Further improve the already strong outcomes for students in Music
  • Work with like-minded colleagues who believe in the power of education to transform lives
  • Contribute to the further development of a high performing department, the school and the MAT
  • Co-ordinate and deliver the MiSST curriculum, as well as activities involving the MiSST network

Essential:

  • An honours degree (or equivalent) in a Music or a related discipline
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience of improving outcomes for students in Music as a classroom teacher
  • Successful experience of teaching Music across Key Stage 3-4
  • An understanding of effective pedagogy including delivering music theory and instrumental teaching to a class
  • Committed to supporting the vision of Twynham TGS
  • Excellent classroom management skills

Desirable:

  • Music specialism
  • Ability to teach a Music to GCSE
  • Ambitious for future school leadership
  • Experience of working in a high performing school
  • Experience of working within a multi-academy trust
  • Ability to analyse and present data coherently
  • Experience of leading school trips and a commitment to the encouraging extra-curricular activities
  • Ability to travel independently
